Trent Murphy is a former NFL linebacker and one of the most accomplished defensive players in Stanford University football history. A graduate of Brophy College Preparatory (2009), Murphy was a multi-sport standout and team captain, helping lead Brophy to an Arizona 5A1 Division runner-up finish in football. In track & field, he captured the 2009 Arizona State Championship in the discus, recording a championship throw of 58.70 meters, while also competing in the shot put.
Murphy continued his career at Stanford University, where he developed into an elite defender after overcoming early injuries. He was a key contributor to Stanford’s Pac-12 championship teams, earning numerous accolades including Consensus All-American honors, two-time All-Pac-12 First Team selection, and back-to-back Jack Huston Awards, voted on by his teammates. Murphy finished his collegiate career as Stanford’s first consensus defensive All-American since 1974, and led the nation in sacks during his fifth-year senior season.
Selected 47th overall in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, Murphy played seven seasons in the NFL with Washington and the Buffalo Bills. Over 86 regular-season games, he recorded 191 tackles, 26 sacks, multiple forced fumbles, and playoff appearances with both teams. Known for his versatility, resilience, and professionalism, Murphy successfully transitioned between linebacker and defensive end roles throughout his career.
